HOME PAGE - WELCOME
North East Essex Primary Care Trust offer osteoporosis assessments in the community for the patients of their GP's. Assessments are provided at in Colchester and Clacton.
Patients are referred into the service by the GP completing a referral form and ensuring that their patients meet the agreed criteria for assessment. The form is sent or faxed to the address / number on the form and the patient contacted for an appointment. On day of attendance the patients meet the Osteoporosis Nurse and their clinical risk factors are assessed with completion of a questionnaire. Their bone density will then be assessed by ultrasound. All results are reviewed by Dr Byrne, Consultant Specialist in Osteoporosis, and a report is sent to each patient and a copy to referring GP. All efforts are made for the reports to be received within 2 weeks of the assessment. The report gives recommendations for therapy depending on the interpretation of ultrasonic data in the context of clinical risk factors.
Dr Byrne is a Consultant Rheumatologist & Specialist in Osteoporosis and is not directly contracted by the PCT.
